Please read the below FAQs to find answers to the most common questions.
Hows does it work?
Quite simply really, you sign up for an account (FREE), you can then start uploading items you own with photos and receipts etc. When and if you are broken into, have a natural disaster, items damaged or even a fire, you can login into your account and supply your insurance company with the correct details of the missing/damaged items. You can also mark the item stolen if it has a serial number, so if anyone searches that serial it will show them it is stolen and give them the option of reporting it.
Who can use this site?
Anyone from the home user wanting an off site list of assets or company wanting to keep track of assets, through to insurance companies and finance companies wanting to list stolen goods and help prevent fraud.
Can you search other items?
No, this site is designed around the use of a serial and as it stands at the moment we haven't built a system to make jewellery etc searchable easily.
What happens if someone searches one of my items?
If it comes up as not being stolen then it will let the user know someone else has registered the item and print to screen no other personal details. If the item comes up as stolen it will ask the searcher if they wish to make contact and report where the they saw the item. We will then take this information and report it to you the owner/NZ Police. We do not recommend trying to retrieve the item back yourself without the supervision of the Police.
Once I have uploaded all our items are you then going to start charging me?
No, and we don't ever wish to start charging for our services. We offer businesses software for faster uploads and better management for a reasonable price which allows us to offer our basic services to the greater public for free. We are open to donations as well.
How secure is my information?
We have made the site as secure and safe to use as we possibly can. Your membership details (e.g. name, email, address) are kept in a separate database to your items and are only connected by a 1024bit encryption key.
Are you an insurance company or associated with the NZ police or government agency?
No, we are a group people that are sick of having items stolen and no way of tracking them. Another example of our work is www.RentSearch.co.nz where you can list and search rental properties free of charge.
